Below are the FGPS principles and practices- the broad strokes underlying the 17 steps.

Take a few days to read and discuss these ideas before starting your set up with your family. Just get a feel for them now, without worrying how to apply them. Talk about each section as you read this together.

Beware! This material will bring up sensitive differences in your parenting styles. For now, just take it all in without getting into your differences. Instead, ask yourselves and discuss, "What do you think John is trying to say here? I'm not saying I agree or disagree, but I'd love to get your thoughts on what he's talking about." etc.

• Debates and power struggles to agreements and consequences
• Powerless, bitter, unmotivated kid-robots (minions) to autonomous, contributing, leaders

In short, FGPS is a trade off: Parents get responsible, productive kids. Kids get sane parents.
